[syndication] Knowing your rdf from your xml from your atom

I'm interested in other people's experience of syndication. Have many people signed up for it, if so through which service e.g. Rojo, Newsgator etc? Or do most people read your site by visiting it directly? I find I get an equal mix of both, although personally I like using an aggregator - it makes it much easier to read a lot of posts, on numerous websites, very quickly.

Also, can someone explain what exactly is the difference between rdf, xml and atom? As far as I can tell, rdf and xml are interchangeable. All the aggregators seem to read both sorts of urls. However, I don't really understand what an atom feed is and all the wikis I have read haven't really helped. Can anyone put this into plain English?

thanks

This is a good question because I made the same question to myself, I'd like that you giving me some clues in order to increase my knowledge, or maybe you can add some link to search for information.
