[Comments on Blogger] Unwanted and Odd

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem before -- it's the first time it has happened to me: I use Blogger and its commenting system on my food blog and have set the controls to send me an email notification for new comments. Only a minute or so (it actually seemed to be almost simultaneous!) after I published my Pringles, anyone? post Sunday night, it received a comment from someone calling himself Giancarlo with a blog called "Made in Italy". What I found odd about it was that I never received an email notification, and, of course, there was absolutely nothing in the post about anything I had written about or food, in general, on his blog.

I did check the S'cool archives to try to find a way that I could delete this meaningless "comment" (the only thing in it was his blogpsot address), but, if I am correct, Sam mentioned that Blogger does not offer this option. I guess this means I will just have to enable comment moderation unless someone else has a solution.

Thanks!

There should be a little trash can icon on the comment, visible to you as the blog author, that you can click to remove it.

I find the Blogger email notification gizmo a bit spotty..sometimes I get it same time and other times hours later or not at all. I guess Blogger is busy and can't keep up. But you can emilinate a comment permanently easily. Over at blogger-tricks.blogspot.com Peter just posted how you can block an annoying commenter-interesting..

You can definitely delete comments without enabling comment moderation, but the little trash can icon doesn't seem to appear unless you click on "comments" from either the main page or one of the archive pages. Just going to the specific permalink page, I never see the delete option. Try it that way and see if you can delete it.

I've noticed an increase in spam comments lately, so I've had to use the delete key more times than I'd like.

Just another thought--you have to be logged in to Blogger to see the trash can icons. If you're like me and switch back and forth between browsers, you may have to log in in order to be able to delete.

I've resorted to comment moderation on my blog. The CAPTCAHSDASD (whatever) method is too cumbersome for my readers, and it only takes a little time to moderate comments myself. I've found that even with the users having to type in a series of letters that I still have to go back into my blog and delete comments from spammers. Here at least I can beat them to the punch.

Dear pepper, parisbreakfasts, susanv, and william,

Thank you so much for enlightening me! I remembered having seen the trashcan icon after you mentioned it, Pepper, but never had to use it--and, of course, when I found the comment I wasn't logged in, so it didn't show up. And susanv, thanks for the advice about using the main or archives page to pull up the comment(s) to be deleted. parisbreakfasts, this was the first time I've not received a comment notification from Blogger which is also why I was confused. And william, I do use that word verification feature on another blog I write, but thought it would encourage posters to comment on Sorry Fugu if they didn't have to do that.

Food Blog S'cool pupils are the best resource for problem-solving! Thank s to all of you for helping.

I think that isn't a real problem. It's all about determination and you already know that. If we're smart people, we won't need notifications about it.
