I was wondering if any of you were noticing an irregular notification of your comments via email. I have realized that today I am not receiving many of the emails notifying me that there have been comments left on many posts. I really rely on this as when comments are made on older posts and questions are asked it gives me a chance to respond. Does anyone have any ideas if Blogger has the bugs or the blues?

Sorry - I haven't noticed any delays. Have you tried to contact Blogger?

I noticed it too. I'm glad I'm not the only one...
Me too. When I logged into my account I had six comments waiting for moderation and I still have not gotten an e-mail about any of those. I'm glad to know it's Blogger and not my e-mail because I know Blogger will fix it.
Same problem here - blogger is aware and is supposedly "working" on it. It seemed to break as soon as they pushed the fix for the picture issue they were having.
OK good to know that I have not done anything that made it go all weird. I hope that Blogger fixes it soon!
Kalyn I did not realize that you moderated your comments. As far as I remember commenting on your blog posted the comments ASAP. When the comments moderation setting is activated that means that you can scan the mails prior to posting them. I have not activated this setting so the comments get posted as soon as they are made. I then rely on the emails I get to filter any spams. This means that the moderate comments section in my account is always empty.
I presume there is no way to set it up in a way that I see the comments that have been made in the moderate comments setting and have them posted as soon as they are published - is there?
I experienced the same issue and posted it in the forums. Hopefully it will get resolved soon.... I don't like having to check my own blog for new comments!
my guess is that it has something to do with this change.
Meeta, I switched to comment moderation a few months ago after I started waking up in the morning with as many as 50 spam comments advertising other websites. It is easier to moderate comments than go back and delete! Actually I have really liked comment moderation, especially when I realized that if yo moderate comments you can eliminate the "captcha" letters. I think I will stick with it, assuming they get the e-mail notification part fixed, which I'm sure they will.
I am trying to figure out what's going on with the commenting change Joanna is referring to. I keep hearing blog owners can enable "open ID" comments, but when I go into settings/comments in my dashboard, I don't have that option.
Wow, I just thought I was having a slow couple of days. When I saw this I checked my blog and have new comments posted to my most recent post. I was distressed because I count on the emails to let me know of questions posted to older recipes. There's no way I can find those without the emails.
Or so I though. Then I remembered that I have a comments feed, so I checked it through Bloglines, and there are all the comments I didn't know about. If you have a comments feed, I highly recommend subscribing to it yourself.
Seems to be back working as normal for me now!
Kalyn, I just tested the option. You have to first log into your account under "Blogger in Draf". So, if you click on the link Johanna gave then click on the link Bloggr in draft you will be forwarded to our own Dashboard but in the "Blogger in Draft" mode. Now when you go to the setting button and click on "Comments" you can select that Open ID option. I just set it up for WFLH - let'S see how it works.
Susan - maybe dumb question but how can I subscribe to the comments feed? Sorry if that is too dumb to ask!!!
Meeta, I just signed up for it too. But it seems to me like it will make it more difficult for anonymous commenters to figure it out. I get quite a few anonymous comments, so now I think I need to write a post about "how to leave a comment" and link to it somewhere.
Meeta, cancel that. The second time I clicked the comment link, it showed all the options. Cool! This will be great.
Meeta, it's been a while, but this is how I think you do it. First you have to enable a comments feed in your blog's Settings. But before you do that, you have to have it set up so that comments appear in a pop-up box (which I hate, but it's the only way you can have a comments feed). After you enable the feed, you note the URL of it and take that to Feedburner to burn a new feed. Then you should be able to subscribe to it yourself in whatever feed reader you use.
Kalyn--did you choose the first option (to allow Anonymous comments) or the second one that mentions OpenID? The second one scared me because it wasn't clear that anonymous posters would be allowed, so I left my settings as they were. Is the 2nd choice better?
I chose the second one, and at first I thought it didn't give the option for anonymous comments any more but it did. The open ID choice makes the Google log-in convert to a drop down menu which has typepad, wordpress, and a lot of other choices for logging in, and the "nickname" and "anonymous" choices are still there too. Click the comment link on my blog if you want to see what it looks like. I think this is a great change. (And despite all the recent comments on here about Blogger, personally I think it just keeps improving.)
I know I'm late here, but I'm hoping some of you are still following this thread. : )
Kalyn,
I went in to comment settings and chose Option 2 (Open ID), but it did what you said at first--stopped showing the anonymous comment option. I checked a couple of times but it stayed the same, so I switched the setting back.
So you didn't do anything differently, it just started showing all the options again?
Anybody else pick the second option (Open ID) and have the anonymous comment option evaporate? Or show up?
Thanks!
I don't have anything else to add; I just forgot to check the "email follow-up comments" box and had to leave another comment to check it. ; )
Susan, I had the same experience as you did. After checking the second box, I saw no way for anonymous comments to be posted, so I changed it back. I would love to have the combination of Open ID + Anon. Anyone know how to get it?
Hi Susan,
Okay, here's what I did. I checked the second box, saw no anonymous comment option, and so went back and checked the top box (that just says, I think, "all comments" or something like that) while still in the blogger draft mode.
Then I didn't bother the check my comment page to see what it looked like, figuring it would go back to the original way.
Then Kalyn sent me a note last night saying "You figured it out!" Um, I did? ; )
But I checked and sure enough all the options are now showing on my comment pages. I told Kalyn I'm not touching anything : ) but I'm pretty sure that unclear top box is the one you want to check.
Click like you're going to leave a comment on any of my blog posts to see what it looks like.
Thanks, everybody, for all the help!
Woohoo! It worked! Thanks so much, Susan. I think before I must have made the second change in regular Blogger, so it just went back to how it used to look.
Hi Susan,
Woohoo! right back at you (can you do that?)
I'm just so glad I found this comment thread since the actual post was about something totally different--but it also was nice to find out I wasn't the only one not receiving comments via e-mail, too. It's like a 2-for-1 special! ; )
Actually, it's a 3-for-1 because this is only the second time I've subscribed to comments on a post, and the first time I realized how easy it is to post a new comment!
