My web dude informed me that I need to upgrade to a heavy-duty subscriber service and suggested ymlp, which allows me to transfer email addresses from my previous list and is $10/month. (I use Movable Type.)
Anyone have any experience with this service or any others?

I didn't get the newsletter either!
You might want to look at
http://www.zookoda.com/
I know la.foodblogging.com uses it. It's free right now.
I recently switched from Bravenet to YMLP on the advice of Heidi (101 Cookbooks). I have since had no problems, am very pleased and definitely recommend them.
It's Your Mailing List Provider

the pricing varies depending upon how large the list is, I think there is also a free version
There is a free version but you can't have too many subscribers. Otherwise you pay based on how many names are on your list.
The good thing about ymlp is that you can import your old mailing list (the Premium version) and although the other one is free the features are rather limited.
I also have used Zookoda.com, but I know they're looking to sell early next year so I'm wondering how things will change once that happens. As far as paid services go Ymlp.com seems to be the most affordable.
