[Blogger] Save your Template

I just wanted to remind all the people who are using blogger(I have no idea how the other blogs work) to back up there template to a .txt file somewhere. The reason I am saying this is last night, blogger lost half of my template, after I had made a major modification to it. Whilst I did not publish the error, I only just noticed that half of the template was missing, luckily!
I had to redo all the changes :(, I was just about to backup too.So I would hate for my misfortune to befall any of my class mates.

I'm so sorry that happened! :-( Good thing you noticed before you published. Thanks much for the reminder to back up! Always a good idea but so easy to forget.

Oh, It was terrible!.... I just figured out how to put sub categories on my site.... and it was all gone.

I am so glad I didnt publish it.... I think a good plan is to check to see the < /html> tag at the bottom to check it's all there. Maybe I'm just paranoid now.

this has burnt me SO MANY times, with template and posts, I am now in a habit of religiously selecting my whole post or template and hitting a control C to save just before I update or save draft or publish. that way if it goes belly up - i then can open a txt file and save it whilst I sort out what went wrong.
I don't actually save the txt each time just prepare for a time when I might need to save it in the future.

Thats a really good tip sam :)

I think having a backup on your computer couldnt hurt either.. after major changes anyway

yes - having template back up is good.i do that too

i just do the ctl c thing every time I am about to do a 'save draft' on a post too. It has become a habiit. It's really saved me more than once.

Saving my Movable Type templates have saved me a few times. If you can do an export of everything, it's a good idea to save that too every once in awhile.

Than you for this suggestion. We put a lot of time and effort into creating these templates. Starting over would be a terrible waste.

It takes awhile to do all the changes,
It is even worse if they have just been done, and its very late at night!

The Blogger servers seem to be flaky, and have alot of trouble at times responding. I don't know why, maybe the servers are getting overloaded...

Definitely do backups on a regular basis. Put them onto a CD rather than your harddrive too. One never knows when a harddrive is going to fail.... (don't ask)

I am usually pretty good at finding hidden features but I can't find a way to back up templates using Typepad... should i make this its own topic or is there a typepad lurker here who knows how?
