Blogging flickr hosted pictures

I guess I'm the last person to notice the following phrase on flickr:

Remember! Flickr Terms of Service specify that if you post a Flickr photo on an external website, the photo must link back to its photo page. (So, use Option 1.)

So far, I always used the second option providing the URL instead of the first option providing the HTML code. As soon as I include the HTML code, the photo doesn't fit into the column and goes all over the place destroying the entire layout of my blog. So my question for flickr-user is: How do you post your pics on blogger? If using the second option, is there a certain trick to it that I haven't noticed?

[Admin] Food Blog Scool Invites

For your information, new blogger no longer allows me to personalise the invitation to food blog s'cool. Instead, those people now signing up to be a member will get a standard blogger message that looks like this:

The Blogger user Sam has invited you to contribute to the private blog: Food Blog S'cool.

To contribute to this blog, visit:
http://...

You'll need to sign in with a Google Account to confirm the invitation and start posting to this blog. If you don't have a Google Account yet, we'll show you how to get one in minutes.

If you are already a Blogger user, please note that this blog uses the new version of Blogger, currently in beta. To post to Sam's blog, you will access this new version with a Google account, instead of your Blogger account. You will see a separate dashboard that does not include your current blogs, but you'll have the opportunity to move them over to the new version of Blogger at a later date.

[press] NYT article about restaurant bloggers

Read Sharp Bites here. I thought this article was fascinating.
I was a little surprised that only one of the bloggers photographed for the article chose to remain undercover.

Restaurant Bloggers in Other Major Cities?

Hello everyone! The article in today's NY Times gave me an idea to publish a list of city-specific food bloggers who write about restaurants in major U.S. cities other than NY, SF and LA - cities like Portland, Seattle, Denver, Miami, Chicago, etc. If you write or know about such blogs, please leave a comment (either here or on the post) and fill me in. I'm pretty familiar with the SF and LA blogs, but if you have particular favorites that might be "undiscovered" - please let me know about those too.

I'm specifically seeking blogs with at least some restaurant content - if not 100%.

Thanks!!

Help! My blog has 2 banners!

Hello Classmates,

I was wondering if anyone can help me with this problem:
I've been trying to get rid of one of the 2 banners on my blog, and it has been less than fruitful. If you look at my site, the banner I am trying to get rid of is the plain green one - it seems to me it shows up on some computers and not others. It also seems to me that it shows up on most computers *gasp*.

The plain green banner is written into the code of the blog template I downloaded from Blogger. Does anyone know how I can get rid of it?

Anyone in Los Angeles or Seattle want to be on tv?

Hey everybody,

As some of you may know, I was filmed by a production company from Los Angeles in May. They came to Seattle to film me walking around the farmer's market, and cooking in my home. Surreal as it was, the experience was tremendous. These are good people who truly care about food and people. I've stayed in touch with them and become friends with the woman who runs the production company.

The piece they filmed of me became a segment for a show they are producing, called The Power of Food. The Food Network bought my piece and run it every day (another surreal experience). Even though this is something I never expected, I'm happy it happened. Hundreds of people have written to me, thrilled to see the phrase "gluten-free" on the Food Network. I really feel as though I have been able to help people with this.

Now, here's the deal. The production company, SeeSaw Studios, needs more people. The Food Network has given them the money to film three more segments. One is already filmed. They are looking for two more stories, one in Seattle, and one in Los Angeles, to film next month.

Because these are such good people, and I had such a tremendous experience with them, I'm helping them out by putting out the call here.

Does anyone here know people in Seattle or Los Angeles with a good food story? They are looking for people who are articulate and not afraid of the camera, obviously. It's better if they are not promoting a book or restaurant, but are simply interested in sharing their story. Someone who started a bakery with her grandmother's recipes? Someone who has been able to do what she loves because of food? A person whose favorite recipe re-united him with his family? Someone who simply exudes joy at the pleasure of food?

Food bloggers understand the power of food. If you know of anyone (including yourself!) who would fit this idea, would you please let me know? My email is glutenfreegirl@gmail.com.

Thanks, everyone.

New tools for fighting splogs!

I apologize if this has been mentioned here already.

A lot of bloggers have had trouble with people all those "splogs," those sites that copy your blog content and then rack up the revenue from google ads. I know quite a number of members of Food Blog S'cool have had this issue.

I ran across the mentione of software (or an account?) that can help you track the sploggy things over at Tech Blogger Scoble's blog. It's called Blogwerx Sentinel.

From what I can tell, the basic version is free for now.

[WordPress] Tech Help

Our Well Fed sites are currently down, and when I inquired, the server host said this, "Your domain was being flooded with http and mysql requests causing the server to become unresponsive to other users. Your web access was temporarily disabled to give this flood time to subside." Our sites remain down until the "attack" is over. They say there's nothing they can do to prevent this from happening (second time in as many months). Any ideas?

RSS Refreshes When Re-Posting?

Does anyone know why, when sometimes I edit a post or edit the title of the post, it refreshes the RSS feed?

It only happens some of the time and I can't figure out what triggers it. I think it must be vaguely annoying to folks using RSS feeders when a post re-appears (albeit in corrected form.)

Help needed: comment problems on Wordpress

I've had some people (including myself) have problems leaving comments on my Wordpress-powered blog that uses Akismet and Bad Behaviour (which is not on strict mode).
Regular commenter Paz got a "44a1-d987-1366-73cd" but we have no idea what it is. Another commenter who works for an ISP yesterday got a 403 Error and a "d592-834e-1366-73cd".
And when I was abroad recently I couldn't leave comments on it because a couple of ISPs were blacklisted. I also wasn't even allowed into the dashboard to post, which was really annoying.
I was wondering is this an overzelous ISP (Bluehost) or something to do with Wordpress or Aksimet or Bad Behaviour?
Is there a way to ensure people aren't blocked without resorting to a Turing test?

[Typepad] [Firefox] Bits of my blog not responding

I'm currently going through a redesign of my blog and have found that when I look at my site in Firefox the top third of the blog, including the top two google ads, the top few links in the post and everything above the odeo & itunes buttons are dead.

However, if I look at the same thing in Internet Explorer or Safari I have no such problem.

Could anyone tell me what the problem might be please. I am testing this all out before launching on my main site so you can find the problem I'm referring to here at Silverbrow on Food - New Logo. I think it must have something to do with my CSS or HTML but for the life of me can't figure it out.

Many thanks in advance.

Anthony from Silverbrow on Food

(comments) Word verification

Does this happen to anyone else?

This morning I was leaving a comment and came to the word verification box and carefully typed in the letters I saw only to be denied and had to type new letters and as punishment a longer string of them. This is not the first or second time either. Okay, it's possible to occasionaly get it wrong, but there are times I'm certain I typed in the correct letters and I'm told to do it again.

Sometimes getting comments posted is like winning the lottery.

And why do they call it word verification? There is no word that I ever saw, though sometimes I think I see some Polish ones.

Favicons in blogger?

Does anyone know if it's possible to add a FavIcon to a blogger blog? Blogger already have a favicon as default, so I'm thinking it's probably not possible - but it sure would be nice if it worked. (Read more on FavIcons here.)

[new blogger] Header problem.

I've recently migrated, and most things work fine. (I had to replace all foreign characters - including accents - on my template as those were screwed up, but ok..)

However, my header is now a bit too high, and bumping into the NavBar. It used to be a space there - and I could be wrong, but wasn't it the same right here on Food Blog S'Cool?

If I hit "preview" in template editing mode, it looks right, but once I publish, it's not... Any insight? :)
