banner image issue

After hours of painstaking effort, I finally had the image I wanted as the background for my header. I emailed a few folks to test it and people using IE couldn't see the image (it came up as plain white). It was fine on Safari and Firefox. I've returned (with much annoyance) to my old plain banner now.

I'm wondering if any of you high techie foodies have any suggestions/directions on how to figure out the problem here. I got the image into the banner by uploading the image to a test blog (using the blogger upload button), and pasting the blogger URl into the background: phrase under #header. It look so delicious on my Mac (running Safari).

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Hi Catherine,

I don't know if it'll help, but I've loaded my banner up onto photobucket and linked it from there. I've never had any problems with it. I post every thing using Safari....

Hope this helps...

I have a banner for my blog which works for both ie and firefox/safari.
I can send you the code by email if you wish.

Thanks Bonnie and Fanny,

I looked at your source code. One problem is I have no photo editing program, so I'm referencing a URL as the background of the banner, rather than linking to a complete text and photo image (like Fanny's).

Bonnie - it looks like you're doing it this way too, so I'm going to try out your way. I note you have something code in there called an "IE5 hack" - I wonder if this is a potential clue.

Thanks, again,
Catherine

Hi Catherine

Thanks for putting this up - I have the same problems too - I operate on IE and Safaria nd Firefox can't seem to see my page the way I do. I want to upgrade but fear it might be too much work.

Ahhhhh took a bit to understand your response to seeing Fanny's code. You want to have an image and insert text on top of it with html.

fwiw- you can email me your image and text ideas and I can make you several images with the text on it (like fanny's).

It would be *no problem* to do so.

McAuliflower - thanks so much for your generous offer. I'm going to ask a friend with photoshop to give it a whirl, but if that doesn't work out, I may accept.

Cheers!
