new blog farmer misusing our posts

there is a new blog farmer out there capturing recipes that include the words fat and burner. It links back to our sites and must be totally automated because the recipes don't make sense for the site. Some of the posts just talk about adding the fat and then sentences later say lower the heat on the burner. Our real posts are interspersed with their "fat burner" info posts. It is just a shill to sell fat burner pills.

I can't seem to find a way to tell these guys to cease and desist, so my recommendation is that you check your Technorati account and see if these guys have linked to you. If so, maybe write a post about how harmful the whole fat burning pill industry is. Let them pick that up!

Anyone have contact with these guys? If so please post a email for them so those of us affected can tell them to cut it out.

I especially like the line at the bottom of their page that says "reproduction without permission is prohibited." Nice touch.

Here's the website http://fat-burner-recipe.skncre.com/

Another thing to do is click on the link that says "Ads by google" then from the drop down menu choose "report a violation" and complain that this is not a bona fide blog and they are stealing your content to create a page to host ads. Google will shut down their ads and they won't have any incentive for the page. They seem to get them shut down fairly quickly.

I might be missing a trick here, but I don't understand why people are getting so upset about this blog farming.

I fully appreciate it's annoying to see others use your work, but assuming you don't do it for commercial gain (most of us don't) then does it actually matter - is it worth the worry? I could see it's a problem if one's posts are being used or associated with a really heinous site: violence, porn that sort of thing, but otherwise why worry about it.

As long as have RSS feeds and there is no security there is sod all you can do about it. You might be able to get the posts taken down, but you can't prevent them being put up.

I have to say my own view is that it's not worth the effort of getting upset. I'd prefer to put my effort into finding a way of preventing RSS being abused.

I know it's bothersome that folks are using our work to make money (and with no flair or effort to it), but I didn't really see anything in violation with that splog.

They're only using the "summary" version of the feed, not the whole post.

It's similar to what a Google search would retrieve ... think of the splog as a pre-made search result in a subject area.

I do actually get some click throughs from people arriving at splogs. I'm not saying that's the way I want to get readers.

I agree that you should report them to google or whoever they're doing their advertising with as a splog and see if cutting off their revenue source makes them shut down.

My concerns were
1. I do not choose to be associated with a fat burning pill
2. I do not choose to provide them with content that they make money off of.

To be truthful, I've been too busy to deal with them. I've not gotten a single click from them and they are raising my technorati rating.

I just hope if we don't persue every misuse, we won't have less standing to shut down the really awful ones if and when they appear.
