Movable Type Format Bar Question

Movable Type Format Bar:

I use Movable Type with Safari and was never able to get the 'format' bar to appear (the one above on the right, where you Post New Entries in MT, that allows you to italicize, link, bold, etc..with buttons rather than HTML).
They didn't apprea in Explorer either, but did in Firefox (which I don't use, though.)

So I upgraded to MT 3.2 and I still can't get it those buttons to appear.
Anyone have this problem or a solution? I'd like to continue using Safari...

(I use a Mac with 10.4)

I have the same setup as you, and I never noticed that the format bar doesn't appear. But now that I think of it, you're right. I've only seen it on IE for Windows. I haven't looked on Firefox.

I use Ecto to post.

Use Netscape, honey. It's nearly ideal for WSIWYG posts. The only problem (if you want to call it that) is that it retains all formatting of fonts if you copy/paste from a web page or e-mail. This is not a big problem, though.

I hope this helps: contact me directly if you need to.

Glad to know you're on a Mac!

Hmm, damned cross platform gibbaldygook. I'm on a PC and they come up fine in IE and Firefox, all versions for the last few years.
Opera, the browser I'm usually using, doesn't show it at all.

On the same side of the coin, I've never used them. I find it easier to just type out the html as I go instead of stopping what I'm doing, grab the mouse, select and click.

Hi David,

Those buttons simply will not work with Safari. They will work if you use Firefox for the Mac. At least the most recent version.

Arvind at Movalog released a plugin for a WYSIWYG editor which will work with Safari:

For future reference, both my Learning Movable Type site (http://www.learningmovabletype.com) and Arvind's site (http://www.movalog.com) are great reference sites for those using Movable Type.

Hmm. The URL for the plugin got cut off. If you want it, email me at elise {at} elise {dot} com.

Elise is right. Get Firefox. It is annoying though, I really like Safari, especially the RSS feeds which are lifechanging
