What? My blog is pornographic?

A few days ago I was checking out the big-league blogs, noticing all the little icons some of them have. Chef's Blogs, Globe of Blogs, Blog Flux, etc.

Just for the heck of it, I applied for a listing on the Blog Flux site.

So, I get this reply back, saying I have been rejected because of one of the following reasons: It is not a blog. It is down. It is too new and I have not posted enough. It is a shill site. It contains nudity. It construes something illegal.

But the Blog Flux Team is too busy to explain which of the reasons I have been rejected. (Was it that provacatively-posed carrot photo I posted a week or two ago?)

I'm a big girl. I can deal with rejection. But c'mon. There's gotta be a better reason that the ones above, none of which are the case.

I know, I know. Someone somewhere said a while back that Kiplog is THE list to be on. So how does a relative newbie get on these lists? There are blogs on Kiplog that haven't been updated in months.

Since my blog does not provide an income, all this is not the end of the world. But I'm curious.

Any comments?

They must have been looking at your other blog...

I can't help you with BlogFlux, but in terms of Kiplog, if I'm remembering right he has info on his site about how to email him regarding your blog and he'll consider adding you to the list.

I think he adds new ones to the list when he can...not sure.

Erin, I did some searching and found an e-mail link for kiplog. We'll give that a try.

I get it, David, the Blog Flux people are dyslexic and thought I mean French Tickler in America.

Hmm. That could be an interesting blog. . .

Wow, that reminds of when I was attempting to get Meathenge listed on a few major lists. Yup, Kiplog was right at the top. I don't remember how long it took, but I remember how awesome it was to see my url up there.

While lists are a great way to get the ball rolling. My best advice is to be exceptionally patient and put your time in to your blog. Both in content and design. Spend the rest of it visting other blogs and posting good relevent comments. Join contests whenever possible and above all, have fun.

I belong to a few web rings and are on many lists. Most of my new traffic comes from comments I've left and contests I've entered. Engage in activity. Such as cooking a recipe from another food blog and posting about it.

There's all kinds of fun things to do. Don't sweat the lists too much. They'll all come in time.

That's a great prescription, Dr. Biggles.

I've been doing some of those things, as best I can with a full time job and a teaching gig.

I can be a good patient. Er, patient.

Thanks.

What's a web ring? I mean, seriously. I've seen the term, but -- I'm old!
Biggles: Name some rings. Not strictly pork rings, y'know?

Patience.

Patience and very large bribes consisting of cookies and beer.

I'm two months behind on my list and for some reason, I've recieved close to 100 requests in the last three weeks.

I've never seen such a wave before. Even when I've been linked in the 'major' media sites. Was there something I missed?

By the way, I do list a few simple rules (just be a blog) on my site, but nowhere on the Food Blog do I list my email. But it doesn't take much to go up a level and find it.

And take the above advice, my list really doesn't attract that much traffic, for all its link rank, so concentrate on content, not marketing. Readers will spread the word.

And I'll get around to it eventually.

Mimi,
i think your use of the word creamy three times on your blog as it currently stands has them in a porn tizzy. (And you don't even have mentions of foodporn!).

Kiplog, I did find your e-mail yesterday and sent you a message. As for cookies and beer, that's a taste pairing I have never considered. Hmm. Might be an idea there.

Yes, Kiplog, someone somewhere said you were the hot site to be linked to. It might have been during the Great Blog Award Debate.

I'm less concerned about listings than I am baffled about the crazy blogflux message.

Gosh, McCauliflower, I was sure it was the hermaphrodite carrot. I'll watch my language from now on.

Is it possible that your blog is infested by pornographic pop-ups?
