[Blog Content] An About Page

After too many years of procrastinating, I finally knuckled down and created an about page for my blog. I created it as a regular blog post page. Then I linked to all the different headings in my blog roll so that once the post drops off the front page, new visitors will be able to click and find out these basics things about me without having to search too hard.

Commentors have already asked if they can 'steal' certain parts of my about post for use on their own sites. I would stay 'steal away' but I don't see it as stealing, I would look upon it simply as being 'inspired'. In fact the person who first asked to borrow was actually Shuna, who I think was the person who inspired me in the first place with her talk, in conversations we have had in person, of people behind a blog being 'real people with a face'. I have no qualms or worries about anyone at all setting up something the same or similar for their own blog, I see this only as something that might benefit everyone concerned.

Be warned however, this post probably took me 6 or 7 hours to complete, so it is quite a committment. However, it is a committment that I believe will pay off in the long run by allowing me to not have to answer lots of time-wasting emails. I also set up a new email address for the blog and have left the vacation responder for that email switched to 'on', replying with a whole list of further/repeated statements about why people who email me may or may not get a response.

I am breathing a big sigh of relief.
Blogging friends, of course can continue to email me at my regular edress, if they know it, no problem there.

Hope this might help some of you.
Happy 2007!

Sam,

I definitely thought to do my own more complete about after seeing yours (and, somewhat recently, Alder's). Maybe I'll get off my duff and do it.

Sam, I really grooved on yours. I have been thinking I should give in and put up a pic of me and more personal info but I abhor pics of myself so much that it just never gets done. I dont do the about text either because I figure it would bore the tears out of anyone who reads it :-)

Yours isnt boring and its obvious it took a lot of effort, well worth it too.

Ahh... I think you nailed it on the head! i haven't been able to put my finger on my feelings after accepting "freebies"... you expressed it quite well.

Bet you feel accomplished to get this done.

Mcaaliflower - I was thinking I should really change the sentence you marked to "Sam is one of those people who hates to have an idea suggested to her. She likes to think things up all by herself... or at least she likes to at least think she thought of it all by herself!"

I can't deny I am often influenced, but likewise I do think I also have a lot of ideas of my own back.

Every blogger ought to do this. It's like having a business and letting employees know what your policies are. It protects everyone.

Kudos to Sam for doing it — and doing it so well.

Hi Sam,

I have a question re your sentence:

"Then I linked to all the different headings in my blog roll so that once the post drops off the front page, new visitors will be able to click and find out these basics things about me without having to search too hard."

I realize your About page is a blog post, so I'm not sure if this pertains to what I'm trying to do, but it was the only kinda similar thing I could find in fbs archives. . . Anyway. . .

What do you mean by linking to all the different headings in your blogroll?

What I'm actually trying to figure out is how blogger decides which part of the sidebar content shows up in permalinks. Seems kinda willy nilly, and there are things I'd like to take out and others I'd like to have included, but I have no clue how to figure this out.

As I said, couldn't find anything directly about this in archives, so I figured I'd ask you.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!
