Sitemeter - have you noticed a problem?

Sitemeter doesn't seem to be updating very well. Is it a problem with Sitemeter or Blogger?

(That was the gist of a question I put up earlier but when I tried to post a reply to the comments below, it disappeared. Anyway, I've written to someone called David whose contact details are provided in the Weblog but have no reply. I think I'll wait it out, what are you all going to do?)

I was just thinking about posting the very same question! I use the free version which means you get what you pay for, but it is very irritating. I tried for looking for some help on the site but I couldn't even find who to ask. Anyone out there have a more reliable *free* site counter service?

I have Sitemeter on my site and I've noticed it is approaching 48 hours behind and steadily getting worse. Before the new year it was real-time. I emailed them about it and this is the response I received on 1/12:

Hello,

Thanks for writing. We apologize for the lag and delays you have been experiencing with our reporting and statistics.

Please be assured that we are aware of the issue and are doing everything we can to resolve the problem as quickly as we can.

The problem you are experiencing is due to a handful of sites on your particular server exceeding normal traffic levels, which unfortunately affects all those assigned to this specific server. While we work to fix the problem we offer a couple choices if you need immediate resolution –

1 – You can create a new account, which will assign you to our newest server and thereby provide you with faster statistical updates. You can still log in to your old account if you need historical data. You will however need to replace your old Sitemeter code with your new account code on your sites pages for the new account statistics to function.

2 – You may find lag is reduced during off peak hours (i.e. late evenings and early mornings). While this is not a solution it may provide you with a temporary fix while we address the server load issues.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this is causing you.

Sincerely,
Sitemeter Support

While I do have the free version right now, I was trying it out to see if it was worth paying for, not only for mine but other work related sites as well. This is hardly the response I wanted and doesn't make me want to purchase the pay service.

Thanks for letting us about the letter you recieved, Paul.

I haven't found it to be true about lag times being reduced during off-peak hours. If anything, it's worse late in evening, up to an 8 hour delay for me. When this first started, the lag began in the late afternoon, but it's only 10:30 right now and I all ready have a lag of an hour. Hurumph.

It would catch up for me at night for a while but that stopped and that's when I emailed them.

I fully expect it to be 3 days behind by next week.

Why don't you guys do yourselves favours and sign up for Google Analytics. It's a free and comprehensive statistics and tracking engine that gives you all kind of graphs and stats on people visiting your site... and isn't some kind of hobbled free version of a pay site. Google basically bought out Urchin, which was very well known tracking and statistics software, and rebranded it.

Sign up with a google account here:
